Shadow studies
A shadow study is a graphical representation of the shadows a proposed new building will cast. All councils require this study to be included in the Development Application of new projects, to insure that a new building does not have negative impact on surrounding buildings.
There are prescribed times and dates that must be represented in the shadow studies - shadows cast at 9am, 12pm and 3pm on March 21st, June 21st and December 21st (With the shadows on 21st of September occasionally asked for as well.).
Provide us with your project's location, the date and time and the compass orientation of your site/structure and idrawfast can provide you with accurate and impressive shadow studies of your project with our shadow analysis computer simulation. The simulation accurately calculates the shadow lengths for the 3 dimensional building structure that was created and added to a 3D site/contour plan by recreating the intensity and angle of the sun throughout a day. This is achieved with with a three-dimensional light that follows the geographically correct angle and movement of the sun over the earth at a given location.
Idrawfast have also developed an animated shadow study that is capable of showing the shadows cast by a building throughout any particular day, in addition to the following features:
- A fully animated shadow analysis, showing the moving progression of shadows throughout the day for the four necessary shadow analysis days - superimposed upon an aerial photograph of the site.
- The animated analysis features full 3D modeled buildings superimposed on the site plan or the aerial photograph, with RL’s posted on the top of the buildings for ease of checking and full terrain modeling.
- It features an animated control panel showing the movement of time, azimuth and sun altitude coordinated with the movement of the sun.
-
The animation can be stopped at anytime during the passage of the day for shadow checks, and comes with a hard copy print-out of the key three times during the day – 9.00am, 12.00pm and 3.00pm.
-
Animation is supplied on an auto-run mini CD-ROM which simply needs to be inserted into any computer, it can be loaded onto a web-site if required, and can be supplied in a file format small enough to be emailed.
